Studio vs 1+1 vs 2+1

1+0, 1+1 or 2+1: Which Bakirkoy Apartment Fits You?

  • Updated:
  • 4 min read

In a studio apartment (1+0) the sleeping and living space is a single room and it suits 1–2 guests; a one-bedroom apartment (1+1) has a separate bedroom and living room and sleeps 2–3; a two-bedroom apartment (2+1) has two bedrooms and suits 4–5. What decides the choice is how many of you there are and how much separate space you need from each other.

What does the plus sign mean?

In Türkiye, apartment types are written as “room + living room”. The first number is the number of bedrooms, the second the number of living rooms. In a 1+0 the bed, the living area and the kitchen share one space, which is why it is simply called a studio. A 1+1 has one bedroom and one living room; a 2+1 has two bedrooms and one living room.

All three types are in a building with a lift and security cameras; 24/7 hot water and regular cleaning are standard in every one. The details are on the amenities page.

Who is the studio apartment (1+0) for?

The studio is a practical choice for one or two people who spend the day out in the city and come back to rest in the evening. It suits couples, solo travellers on a short business trip, and stays of a night or two. You make breakfast in your own kitchen, brew tea or coffee, cook a simple dinner. The bathroom is yours alone.

A single space is compact and easy to use. If one of you goes to bed early while the other works late, or if two people need room apart during the day, look at the one-bedroom apartment (1+1).

Who is the one-bedroom apartment (1+1) for?

The 1+1 is the first option where you can close the bedroom door. That small difference brings a lot of comfort on a stay of several days:

  • While one of you sleeps, the other can read or work in the living room.
  • A family with a young child can put the child to bed early and spend the evening in the living room.
  • On a business trip, meeting preparation and sleep stay in separate spaces.

Capacity is 2–3 guests. If three of you are staying, settle the bedding arrangement for the third person when you book.

Who is the two-bedroom apartment (2+1) for?

Two separate bedrooms are exactly what groups of 4–5 need most. Typical uses:

  • Two parents and two or three children: parents and children in separate rooms.
  • Two couples: each couple has its own room, with the living room and kitchen shared.
  • Small families travelling with a grandmother or grandfather: the lift also makes getting upstairs easier for older relatives.

If there are four or five of you, ask for the two-bedroom apartment (2+1) directly; everyone is comfortable in one apartment, in separate rooms.

Choosing by how you will use the kitchen

All three types have their own kitchen; what changes is where the kitchen sits in the home. In the studio apartment (1+0) the kitchen is in the same space as the living area, which is practical for breakfast, tea, coffee or a simple dinner. In the 1+1 and 2+1 apartments the separate bedroom means one person can rest while the other cooks; that is easier for guests who will cook regularly over several days, prepare a child's meals at home, or sit down together at a full table. If you will spend most of your days out, simply choose by how many of you there are.

Two questions to ask before you choose

The first is how many nights you are staying. The longer the stay, the more space you need; a single room that feels fine for two nights can feel tight over a week. If you are thinking in weeks, have a look at weekly rental too.

The second is what you will do at home. If you plan to cook and spend evenings in, or to work during the day, an apartment with a separate living room is more comfortable. You can see all the types on the apartments page.

Common questions

Is a 1+0 apartment the same as a studio?

Yes. 1+0 means the bed and the living area are in one space, which is why it is called a studio. Our studio apartment (1+0) sleeps 1–2 guests and has its own kitchen and private bathroom.

Can a family of four stay in a one-bedroom apartment?

The one-bedroom apartment (1+1) sleeps 2–3. For four or five people we suggest the two-bedroom apartment (2+1), where everyone is comfortable in one apartment.
